White Mahakala (Shadbhuja Sita) is a peaceful and wealth-bestowing form of the great protector, embodying the compassionate activity of Avalokiteshvara. He is an emanation of Chenrezig, the Buddha of Compassion, manifesting as both a protector deity and a meditational deity whose function is to increase wealth and material abundance for spiritual practitioners . When practitioners no longer need to worry about mundane needs, they can spend more time developing themselves spiritually . In contrast to the various other forms of Mahakala, the Shadbhuja Sita form is specifically a wealth deity—the skull cup resting in his primary left hand contains jewels, rather than grisly remains . He can be distinguished iconographically by his diadem, made of jewels rather than skulls, and the elephant-headed deities on which he stands .

With six arms and a white complexion, he sits in royal ease upon a lotus throne, his peaceful yet slightly wrathful expression embodying the compassionate energy that removes obstacles to prosperity while maintaining perfect peace. The elaborate flaming mandorla behind him represents the orange pristine awareness fire that surrounds the deity, symbolizing his power to burn away all obstacles to wealth and spiritual .

The six arms each hold traditional implements that symbolize his ability to increase material and spiritual wealth, to attract all things positive, and to purify our negative karma . His main right hand holds a wish-fulfilling jewel mounted on a jewel-tipped handle in front of his chest, an emblem held by deities associated particularly with wealth . His main left hand holds a skull cup containing a vase filled with various jewels . His upper right hand holds a curved flaying knife (chopper) ; his upper left hand holds a trident-tipped khatvanga staff, symbolizing the destruction of the three poisons of ignorance, desire and aggression . His lower right hand holds a damaru drum ; his lower left hand holds a vajra hook, symbolizing the hooking of negativities and the pulling of all beings out of samsara and towards liberation .

He is adorned with jewelled ornaments and wears a beautiful skirt made of many scarves with jewels hanging down on the skirt . Under each of his feet is a prostrate deity with an elephant head, symbolic of overcoming obstacles . The elaborate flaming mandorla surrounding him represents the orange pristine awareness fire, intricately hand-carved with dynamic flame patterns.

The complete 24k gold-gilding adds radiant luminosity to the entire sculpture. The hand-painted details employ natural mineral pigments—his white body representing his peaceful wealth-bestowing nature is applied in layers to create exceptional depth and luminosity.

For more than a millennium, the Kathmandu Valley has nurtured a living lineage of metal sculptors who have preserved the secrets of ancient lost-wax creation. This 48cm White Mahakala masterwork represents that living heritage—a transmission of artistic tradition passed from master to disciple through countless generations, now embodied in a single perfect form that captures the peaceful yet powerful presence of the White Lord with Six Hands.
